Very large folding map of Europe established by the officers of the Polish army in 1835.


In 1815, the Grand Duchy of Varsovia is demembred between Prussia and Russia. The city of Cracovia is erected in a Republic of Cracovia, that we can see delimited on the map.

The part of the Grand Duchy acquired by Russia is erected in Kingdom of Poland delimited on the map. 

In 1831 January, Polish people are rising up against Russia. The insurrection is subdued in September by the russian. Then, Polish people lost all autonomy and suffered a ruthless repression. Many patriots took refuge in France. Among them, some polish officers. 

This map is dedicated to the defendant of the rights and interests of Poland, Lord Dudlay Stuart. 

Lord Dudlay Stuart (1803-1854) was a British politician. He married Princess Christine Bonaparte, daughter of Lucien Bonaparte. 

He was a subsequently liberal, he was a passionate advocate of Polish independence, and sympathetic in general to the cause of the Eastern European people against Russia. 

It is a very interesting map, with the routes of the Posts in Europe.

 

The map is on linen, in its antique box, in red cartoon, with the stamp of Mr Savard, papermaking in Paris.
