Fine Antique Japanese Makura  Box 1890s -Kintsugi Ceramic Lotus Tile, Lacquered 

Here Is a very fine old box.

The top is slightly concave and holds a glazed and hand painted tile of a lotus plant and flower.

The tile is well set in the lid and it has been lacquered over very neatly on the inside as shown. 

The box sides are decorated with more lotus flower embellishments in gold and green and red.

Both halves of the box close in precisely and their effect is almost that of a mirror for the top and bottom of the box. This box is heavy and feels special in the hands as you hold it. 

There is one area that had some damage that appears to have been repaired in the Kintsugi method using gold as shown in photo.
