A Flock of Seagulls are an English new wave and synth-pop band that formed in 1979 in Liverpool with Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards), his brother Alister (drums), and Frank Maudsley (bass). The peak of their chart success was in the early 1980s with guitarist Paul Reynolds.
The group had a string of international hit singles including "I Ran (So Far Away)" (1982), "Space Age Love Song" (1982), "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" (1982), and "The More You Live, the More You Love" (1984). Their video for "I Ran (So Far Away)" received airplay on MTV during the Second British Invasion. The band won a Grammy Award in 1983 for their instrumental "D.N.A" (1982).

ALBUM REVIEW BY ALLMUSIC: The 2-disc, 36 track "Wishing: The Very Best" is another superb entry in the Music Club Deluxe series of compilations comprising the work of bands who recorded primarily in the 1980's. This release by A Flock of Seagulls, while not being a complete rarities set, does a very good job indeed of covering the Paul Reynolds years (with a few tracks from Dream Come True scattered around here and there), and the inclusion of a good number of early B-sides, EP extras, and single versions make welcome additions for the long-time fan. Every track from the US release of the debut album is included here, while only two tracks from Listen (including the brief instrumental track 2:30) have been omitted; and the overlooked third LP, The Story Of A Young Heart, is represented by six of the better tracks (with only three other tracks from the LP excluded). Rounding off Disc 2 are three Extended Versions that include the full album version of I Ran, and the impossibly beautiful nine and-a-half minute extended version of Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You). The sound is excellent, which means that this generous set provides a convenient means for fans to update their old CD (or vinyl) versions. Well presented, with good sleeve notes by Michael Heatley.
