About Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna):
One of the oldest known medicinal plants, Hawthorn was prescribed by the Ancient Greek physician Dioscorides in the first century AD as a remedy for heart problems, and by many prominent herbalists and physicians who came after him. Crataegus monogyna is one of the most common species used as the "hawthorn" of traditional herbalism.

Hawthorne was used in past as a diuretic to treat kidney stones. Later in 1800’s, doctors found some  benefits of Hawthorn for heart. The utilization of leaves and flowers was effective in cardiac health and contractility of heart muscles. Hawthorn has flavonoids that is able to promote blood circulation in the heart with the dilation of blood vessels. 

For centuries, hawthorn has been used as an herbal remedy for digestive problems, heart problems, and high blood pressure. How to use/consume loose dried Hawthorn?
Decoction:
Make a decoction of the herb by pouring 2 tablespoons with 500 ml of boiling water and leave to soak for 2 hours, strain. Drink 150 ml 3 times a day, best before meals.

Infusion:
Two tablespoons dried hawthorn leaves & flowers are boiled in 450 ml. boiling water. Boil for 2-3 minutes. Leave to soak for about 1 hour, strain. Drink 150 ml. half an hour before meals 3 times a day.

Tea:
1-2 tsp of Hawthorn Leaves & Flower. Pour 250 ml of hot water and let it steep for about 5-15 minutes, strain the tea and drink.

Hawthorn Tincture:
1 part of Hawthorn Leaves & Flowers pour 3 parts of warm alcohol 40-45%. Close the dish and leave it in a dark place for about 14 days. Then strain, pour into the bottle. Drink 1-2 tsp a day once or twice a day. Sweeten with with natural honey if needed.

NOTE: 
> Hawthorn is safe with few side effects. Speak with your healthcare professional before starting this supplement if you’re on any medications.
> Do not overdose, hawthorn improves the general condition with long-term use and not with high or excessive short-term use!

Recommended daily dosage:
2 - 3 cups of tea per day.
