This is an antique Gustave Dore print of an illustration for Dante's Inferno. This was taken as a page from an 1880's publication of The Inferno by Cassell and Company. It is printed on paper. It will be shipped in a plastic sleeve and backed by cardboard.

Page is about 9.5" x 13".

This print is from plate #9 of the series and depicts the mythological ferryman Charon with oar and boat on the river Styx at the entrance to Hell. Canto III, lines 76 - 78:

"And, lo! toward us in a bark
Comes on an old man, hoary white with eld,
Crying, "Woe to you, wicked spirits!"

This print is over 130 years old and has some condition issues, including yellowing of the paper, chips and tears along the edges, some small stains in various places, and creases and dimpling on the print from handling.
