A Beautiful Victorian Art Nouveau Copper Coal Scuttle.
 Benham & Froud.
1894.

A high quality and very rare antique art nouveau Benham & Froud coal scuttle and dated to 1894.

This exceptional Victorian scuttle was made by the renowned Benham & Froud foundry.  The scuttle is stamped on the underside with the manufacturers mark and is also stamped "Rd 234924"giving accurate date of manufacture.   Raised on a stepped circular plinth the scuttle is egg shaped with a wide scalloped mouth for filling and removing coal.  The interior has a rest for a shovel which is not present.  The exterior of the top of the scuttle is beautifully and elaborately decorated in embossed flowers, foliage and scrolling.  In true art nouveau style the scuttle has a stunning black steel whiplash handle looping over the top with two wavy tongues copper rivetted to the top. 
      
Dimensions: The scuttle stands approximately 40cm tall, including handle.   The body measures 48cm x 34cm approximately.

Weight: 3kg's approximately.
 

Condition: In good to very good used antique condition.  The exterior copper has a nice sheen whilst not being polished out bright.  There is some age related tarnish to rebates and difficult to acces areas of copper.  There are some minor dents from use with coal. There are minor surface marks.  The handle is firm on its four copper rivets.  The handle is clean with a nice gleam.  There is some loss of the original black paint finish.  The interior is clean with darkening to the surface copper from past use.  However, this has a nice gleam to it as the scuttle has apparently not been used for sometime and has been well maintained.  We encourage potential buyers to make use of the 24 images to satisfy themselves of condition and encourage any enquiries.

International buyers must contact for postal rates prior to bidding.  International buyers are responsible for any additional tax.  Postal rates are non-negotiable.  All packages are sent recorded delivery and require a proof of delivery signature.  We respectfully ask all recipients to carefully inspect packages and contents prior to providing signature.

Payment

We accept paypal payments. We also accept cheques but they must be cleared before any items will be sent. Buyers are also welcome to pick up items in which case we would accept cash.

Shipping

We do our best to ensure that all items are well packaged to ensure their safe arrival. In the event of rough postal handling and subsequent damage please contact us to allow us to resolve the problem. It is the buyers responsibility to check that the parcel is undamaged before signing for it Due to problems with items going missing, all items will be sent recorded, heavier items will be sent by Parcel Force 48 which requires a signature on delivery.This will be reflected in the postage costs, if you are not happy with the cost of postage then please do not place a bid. If you have any additional packaging or postal requirements we are always happy to accomodate. If you need an item particularly quickly e.g for a birthday present then please let us know straight away and we will dispatch as a priority. We will happily combine postage on multiple purchases. We are also happy for buyers to pick up items with cash on collection. International buyers must contact for postal rates prior to bidding. Some items may be automatically be excluded due to weight, fragility etc. All items sent abroad will be sent 'signed for' which will add to the postage cost. We always ensure that delicate items are packed carefully and thoroughly to ensure a safe journey, we use new,professional packaging materials bought specifically for the job. We do not aim to make any money out of postal charges, we charge just enough to cover the costs of sending items. Our main priority is that items arrive undamaged. Please bear in mind when leaving feedback that postal prices have recently increased considerably and that delicate items need a huge amount of packaging materials to ensure a safe arrival. Please also bear in mind that postage costs do not simply cover the cost of the stamp, they cover the cost of quality materials, time and petrol to get items to the post office. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE POSTAGE COSTS PLEASE DO NOT PLACE A BID.

Terms of Sale

We do not accept bids from ebayers with a positive feedback of less than 25. If you would like to place a bid but you have a low feedback score then please contact us first We accept that occasionally a buyer might feel dissatisfied with a purchase and in that instance we would ask that you contact us directly and we will do our best to resolve any problems. This includes returns, for reasonable reasons, which we accept with the buyer paying for return postage.
