This lens has been modified to give an extremely soft focus and "soap bubble" backgound and bokeh, similar to the old Trioplan lenses and their modern remakes. The effect is most noticable at f/2 and decreases as the aperture is stopped down.

The modification does affect the focus range, it now focuses down to about 30cm, rather than the normal 50cm. It does still reach infinity. See the last three pictures for examples.

All external surfaces have  been cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, any excess internal grease removed. If necessary the focus has been re-lubricated and certain internal parts re-painted with a modern non-reflective black paint.

The Helios 44-2 is a series of standard lenses for SLR cameras, produced in Soviet Union by the KMZ, MMZ, Valdai and Jupiter factories from  1971 till 1992 and it is considered to be one of most mass produced  lenses in the world. Based on the Zeiss Biotar 2/58. The series is known for it's "swirly"  bokeh/out of focus areas, and good center-frame sharpness.

M42: Lens elements are clear of dust and fungus, tiny air bubble to middle element & old cleaning marks to rear element. No oil on aperture blades. Aperture and focus rings is smooth. Very good cosmetic condition.

Micro Four Thirds: Lens elements are clear of dust and fungus. No oil on aperture blades. Aperture and focus rings are smooth. Very good cosmetic condition.

Sony: Lens elements are clear of dust and fungus. No oil on aperture blades. Aperture and focus rings are smooth. Very good cosmetic condition.
