Large antique copper engraved plan of Paris (France), from "Traité de la Police" by Nicolas de La Mare ou Delamare (1639-1723). 

This plan represents Paris during the reign of Louis VII le Jeune from 1137 to 1180. It is decorated with 3 large cartouches in which we find the description of the plan, and a nice compass in upper side. In lower left side, a table of main streets and edifices listed by letters, which are noted on the plan.

This plan is issued from a chronological series of eight Paris maps of the "Traité de Police", published from 1705 to 1729, which is among the first attempts to illustrate historical changes with maps and shows the growth of Paris from Roman times until 1705, the year of the first publication.

Nicolas de La Mare was a Parisian magistrate occuped in urban problems and services, his work is a pioneering work in urban administration.

The maps proved popular and were frequently reproduced and sold. Goffart thinks that around 1715 de Fer copied all eight and published them under his own name, and is therefore sometimes credited as the only author.

Condition : good condition, a repair in the right side from the margin to the center, a part of the right margin extended, handed colored
