Rare Mule Pandora’s Breeches, (Usually found on Reverse of End of Pain, Hanging Man or Men Spence Tokens) and Shakespeare: Stratford Promissory Halfpenny this is a Thomas Spence Great Britain Conder/Provincial Token Colonial: Collectible Rare coin D&H 322

Spence was the most prolific and recognizable of all the Provincial Tokens of the period. The Rights of Man, Anti-Slavery Tokens, End of Pain and the Hangmen at the end of a noose were attributed to Thomas Spence. This is a very Rare Mule, rarely seen for purchase.

Due to the shortage of Regal coinage in the 1790's and the fact that the population of Great Britain had nearly quadrupled, the masses were forces to either create non-regal coinage of George III (1760-1820) or with permission from The Crown, they produced their own copper coinage to be used as change for workers and business customers.

These Provincial or Conder Tokens were widely produced so based on the image or business depicted on these tokens they have been collected and used both throughout Europe and here in the US.
