An extremely rare William IV period State Trumpeters banner of the Household Cavalry. The embroidered coat of arms flanked by a lion and a unicorn, worked in gold, silver and coloured threads on a silk ground with ‘WR’ cypher. Silk is in fragile condition, as is often the case due to the shear weight of embroidery. Some wire threads are loose. Mounted in a modern gilt frame with rare gilt state coatee button that shows incredible detail, attached to the top of the frame in its own contemporary case.

Trumpet banners are ‘cast’ every five years, or so, and because they are double-sided, they can be split. Usually, the halves will be shared between the Commanding Officer and the Adjutant; because they are State (rather than regimental) banners, it will not be possible to determine if they were 1st or 2nd Life Guards or Royal Horse Guards.
