A Historical Relation of the
Plague at Marseilles
in the Year 1720

Containing a circumstantial account of the rise and progress of the calamity, and the ravages it occasioned;
with many curious and interesting particulars relative to that period.
Translated from the french manuscript of
Mons. Bertrand

physician at Marseilles, who attended during the whole time of the malady
by
Anne Plumptre

With an introduction, and a variety of notes, by the translator

384 pages. Scarce. A detailed account of the course of the plague in Marseilles, its medical effects and scientific explanations, as well as its social and political effects among the populace. Monsieur Bertrand appears to be a Jean-Baptiste Bertrand.

In a handsome binding that appears to be 20th-century, half-leather with marbled paper boards, some blind tooling, and gilt titles on spine with 4 raised bands. Octavo size; just shy of 9" tall.

Binding tight and square, text unmarked. Title page bears stamp of former owner; inside on front pastedown endpaper is a small (3/4"W) numbered sticker probably for cataloguing this book in personal collection. Cover paper has some scuffs. See pics. Some light wear to leather along spine, but overall the condition is quite shipshape and pleasing.
