A scarce first limited edition copy of this profusely illustrated work on sporting painters by Walter Shaw Sparrow. Walter Shaw Sparrow was a notable Welsh writer on art and architecture with a special interest in British sporting artists. This edition, printed on 'specially made rag paper, with two extra plates in hand-coloured photogravure' is limited to one hundred and twenty five copies, of which this is no. 7. Copiously illustrated throughout with seventeen coloured plates (including two extra illustrated plates to the introduction) and numerous monochromatic plates. This copy also features a folding plate of the 'Alken Family Tree'. 'A Book of Sporting Painters' acts as a companion work to Sparrow's earlier works 'British Sporting Artists From Barlow to Herring' and 'Angling in British Art Through Five Centuries'.
