An attractive and very rare 19th century antique Bride's blackwood circular box inlaid with abalone or Mother of Pearl. The intricate oriental design of the small village and the venerable eight Buddhist objects wish the couple good health, plenty of food, (fisherman), spiritual guidance, good fortune, and happiness. These symbols along with scrolls, flowers, leaves, stems, and vines decorate the entire outer box. The box  has individual compartments inside and was used to keep auspicious cakes.  Circa: late 18th century - early 19th century.  My 1978 Hong Kong appraisal said it is most probably made in the period of Chia Ch'ing, (1798-1820), the Emperor. This box was made for the European market at that time.

Thank you for looking at one of my family treasures. Hal
