"The King" is a gangster story set in Warsaw in 1937 about violence, the desire for power and the pursuit of maintaining it at all costs. A story of the ups and downs of the mafia that aroused fear and hearing in the capital before the outbreak of WW2. The main character, Jewish gangster boxer Jakub Szapiro, is drawn into a political conspiracy and gangster fights that may determine the fate of the state.
The series is based on the novel by Szczepan Twardoch under the same title. The author of the novel himself is also a co-writer of the series. It was directed by Jan P. Matuszyński, the creator of the Golden Lions painting "The Last Family", awarded at the FPFF in Gdynia.

Excellently received by viewers and critics, the 8-episode series "THE KING" has been acclaimed and awarded the prestigious 2021 Telekamera statuette, awarded by the editors of "Tele Week".
The series' photo author, Kacper Fertacz, received the 2021 PSC Award of the Association of Cinematographers for Best Photos.
