Yuri Koval is a Soviet children's writer and poet, as well as a screenwriter for cartoons and films for children.

For his works he was awarded the All-Union Competition for the best work for children, the “Andersen Diploma” - an honorary diploma of the International Council for Children and Youth Literature, the All-Union Competition for the best children's book, and the “Wanderer” award of the International Congress of Science Fiction Writers.

Yuri Koval's books have been translated into several European languages, into Chinese and Japanese.
