Freeman Style Pine
Bottom Board with Metal Tray for Hive Beetle Control
The Freeman Beetle Trap
is an economical and effective way to manage small hive beetles. Jerry Freeman
of Hamburg, Arkansas created the Freeman Beetle Trap for use in standard
Langstroth Hives. This trap went through extensive testing in universities,
including Mississippi State and Clemson, and proved to be successful in
treating small hive beetles. Simply replace your existing bottom board with
this bottom board, add liquid (vegetable oil, mineral oil, or even soapy water)
to the tray and be rid of your hive beetles in a little as 48 hours.
Design features:
- Made of ¾” Pine which is the most popular wood
for making beehives.
- The metal tray has the following features:
- made from .1” galvanized
steel
- has folded corners to
insure a waterproof tray.
- we embed the tray in a uniquely
designed wood tray to ensure no exposure to sharp edges and to make sure the tray
fits snugly inside the bottom board.
- we leave only a 1/8” opening
around the tray so no bees have access to the liquid.
- we attach the metal to
the inside of the wood tray with eight (8) rivets
- we use7X7 (.13” opening) galvanized after woven hardware cloth
for the screen. This size wire mesh prevents the bees from getting through the screen
but allows easy passage of hive beetles.
- we place wood diverters in each corner to direct the hive beetles
onto the screen
- The bottom board comes fully assembled
using Titebond glue and 1.5-inch galvanized nails.
- All of our woodenwares made to exacting
specifications in our state-of-the-art workshop.
