Texas Prickly Pear Cactus, Opuntia engelmannii var. lindheimeri 'Seguin' (Bright Orange-red Flower). On mature plants, this species has a relatively high yield of purple-red, plump, juicy, edible fruit.

This is one of the species/varieties that are used in the making of jams, jellies and juices, etc.

Eaten by the indigenous people for centuries of what is now known as the southwestern/midwestern United States and part of Mexico.

The fruit is not too naturally sweet straight off the plant, so it is used in jams, jellies and fruit juice mixtures, etc. and the flavor is brought out by the sugar added.

The price is for one pad/segment, Non-rooted. The pad I send will not have fruit on it. There may be an occasional segment sold that has an aging blemish but the plant will still grow into a great landscape & fruit harvesting plant. Rooting is fairly straightforward and easy.

As for the beautiful flower color, the clipping will come true and yield plants with the orange-red color as pictured.
Regular Opuntia engelmannii (no variety) has bright yellow flowers that fade to pale orange by the end of the day.  High in anti-oxidants. And other reports show it to help lessen diabetes symptoms.

Approximate size: 6-7 inches wide by 6+ inches tall. Hardiness is down to about 15 degrees Fahrenheit, zone 8b. If planted in the ground, the plant usually gets to be about 3-4 feet high. Shipping to USA mainland Only.

It is generally a good practice to let the cut part callous over in ambient or dappled/screened sunlight for 7 to 10 Days before placing it in the soil. The callous helps in blocking out any possible pathogens or antigens from entering the cactus pad.

Use CAUTION when handling this plant, it has pointed spines. Avoid contact with skin and clothing. Buyer assumes risk. Seller cannot be responsible for what the buyer does with this plant. Handle with Tongs.
