Kilims are handmade flat woven sheep wool carpets or rugs produced in mazar-e-sharif, Afghanistan. They are produced by tightly interweaving the wrap and weft strands of the weave to produce a flat surface with no pile. The patterns of kilims are predominantly geometric and the most common layouts as well as multiple connected diamond-shaped medallions, and all-over octagonal shapes.   

The variety of designs, colors and sizes in kilims are the characteristics that make them especially attractive and adaptable for countless applications in home decoration. A kilim rug can be the focal point of room décor to liven up or enrich the surroundings. Kilims can be used as floor coverings, wall-hangings, spreads over pieces of furniture, tablecloths, bedspreads or as cushion covers, to name just a few of their uses. 

Furthermore, they can be used to good effect not only in homes but also in places of work, which they enhance immeasurably by taking the edge off the usual formality.
