This is a fabulous old Decorative Drum from the Siassi (Umboi) Island of Papua New Guinea. The decorative style reveals the influence of the Siassi islands and the North Coast of New Guinea. The tall, hourglass-shaped body of the single-headed drum is carved in brown, hard wood and decorated with elaborate and fine abstract-geometric reliefs from the center to the sides.  An elegant arched handle is on the side and another handle with a crest-like decorative section on it and all made from a single piece of wood. Kundu is the name given to Hand Drums used in New Guinea. There are literally hundreds of different types of these fascinating musical instruments as most New Guinea tribes have a style of their own. This drum is old and it has no lizard skin. The Monitor lizard skins on the heads of drums are now on the endangered specie list. This is a magnificent old drum in color, design and style and would be a wonderful addition to your collection or to your home.
