This is an original oil on canvas painting by the Chinese American artist Wahso Chan. He was a masterful painter who could capture the mood and character of the subject with bold brush strokes and very stark light and shadow. This canvas is of a woman wearing a hat and holding a weaved basket full of fruit. The painting is in the original bamboo frame which is very rare as most of the painters work had been reframed. It is in very good condition for the age with no marks and quite bright. The painting measures 64cm x 49cm. That measurement is of the painting including the bamboo frame.

Bio

Chinese Artist Wahso Chan painted the inhabitants of San Francisco China Town. Mr. Chan was killed at a young age in 1937, due to being crushed between two delevery trucks in San Francisco. Mr. Chan was just reaching the pinacle of his career at the time of his untimley death. Mr, Chan's life spanned from 1911 to 1937. The painting measures 64cm x 49cm.
