This UG Golden Shadow is one of the most comfortable watches to come through the shop in quite some time at just under 8mm in thickness and it has an excellent overall look. The Full Story When we think about Universal Genève today, most will associate the brand with either the Compax chronograph or the Gérald Genta-designed Polerouter. However, the Golden Shadow line showcases another facet of the brand, a more refined side that's characterized by the use of slim cases, which were also designed by Genta, returning to UG to follow up his Polerouter. Ultimately, the Universal Genève Golden Shadow was the company’s answer to a designated dress watch line. When it came to dress watches in the 1950s and 1960s, many of the watch manufacturers were focused on who could make the thinnest, most elegant pieces. And with this example, it's easy to see the care that went into creating this watch. The case of this Golden Shadow is solid 18k gold. Additionally, there's a useful date window at three o'clock. This manufacturer is said to have been involved with the development of the first Oyster cases with Rolex and went on to execute cases for manual-wind Daytonas, Omega Speedmasters in the 1980s, and, of course, this UG Golden Shadow.
