I've had an ebay listing for the original r/place active since it first finished back in 2017, and am thrilled to bring my experience to printing the new version. I wouldn't blame you for thinking that printing doesn't take any special skill or knowledge (it's just File>Print, right?), but I assure you, it's so much... extra vs a desktop inkjet printer... and who has had nothing but easy good times with those? And it's not just the printer, printing pixel art requires another level of care, otherwise you get aliasing and it looks completely wrong; you can see the same problems on screen with different levels of zoom on the canvas--it's easiest to notice on small repeating patterns like the green lattice, but in general everything gets messed up because some pixels are no longer square. Aside from bringing the knowledge, these are printed on photo quality paper with studio quality pigment and a color managed process. Buying from me instead of that colored bubble mass production site means not only supporting a small artist, but getting a guaranteed superior product.

The image itself is 20x20"; mathematically this is the closest it can be to paper/shipping limits with all pixels remaining square, and I wouldn't dare cut off even a fraction of a pixel. The paper is ~21" square, but the margins are considered sacrificial and may have some light wrinkles.

For the final clean, please select the "lightly tuned" option. I know it's confusing, but ebay has recently broken their listing page and now I can't make any changes, so can't add it as r/TheFinalClean.

You can order both 2017 and 2021 at the same size (20x20), just purchase two and request the same size in the "message to seller" upon checkout. Same goes for the 2023 version!

r/place has a very practical advantage as artwork in that it will remain interesting and surprising longer than practically any other image you might hang on your wall. I say this with authority, because I have been printing the original for 5 years now and, honestly, I'm still finding new things. Not to mention the number of references that originally went over my head but I've learned about in the interim! Another advantage is the extremely diverse culture represented, it's almost guaranteed that any visitor that sees it will find something they identify with. If there's one thing this very much isn't, it's low key accent piece; it's loud&noisy AF and people will be drawn to it like no other.

These are photo quality inkjet prints on your choice of paper. The paper attributes are as follows:
24 lb matte: very slightly heavier than regular office paper. Coated for brighter colors, but still limited amount of ink capacity. Likely to have cockling (waviness). Easily damaged.
48 lb matte: aka doubleweight (compared to normal office paper). Like 24 lb but sturdier, brighter, sharper, and minimal to no cockling.
69 lb gloss: just about the heaviest paper for roll fed printers. Accepts the most ink for great colors, but gloss has some weaknesses: susceptible to swirl mark scratches, more susceptible to fingerprints, and suffers if the lighting isn't right as reflections can overwhelm the colors.

Regarding the "best print" option, my standards really are obnoxiously high, and as a consequence I regularly end up with prints that just don't meet my standard for premium quality. But I also hate waste and know that practically everyone else in the world is unlikely to notice that there's anything amiss (tbh it can even take me a bit to figure out what was wrong with a print I've set aside as not good enough). Thus I'm making available these B prints (factory second, irregular, what have you) at a significant discount. I can't promise you won't be able to figure out the error with a bright light and your nose on the page, but it won't be obvious, especially from normal viewing distance (anything obvious is recycle, alas). Availability is naturally limited, so if you see & you want, you buy, buy now!

Want more, or something a little different? Contact me to inquire about custom jobs. I can do up to 44" square, alternative media like light fabric, plastic film, adhesive, etc. Prices for custom jobs will be higher, especially for larger because that's an exponential increase in area (and sometimes shipping price)
