It is a purple, green, blue, and orange banknote that is dated 3 October 1990, bear the signatures of Antonio Fazio and Angelo Amici, and measures 112 mm x 61 mm. Its obverse side features the seal of the Maritime Republics (Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa, Venice) and a portrait of Maria Montessori. Its reverse side shows the penal code and a depiction of students studying a book.
