Here we have an antique floating bath thermometer, in a beautiful turned wood case. This type of thermometer was invented by Dr. John Forbes (1787-1861), a Scottish physician, and was used to measure the temperature of bath water for therapeutic bathing. This thermometer measures approximately 12" in length overall, with temperature markings from 0 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Also printed are temperature descriptions including Hot, Warm, Tepid, Tempe, Cool, Cold Bath and Freezing. The thermometer appears to be measuring temperature correctly and is in generally good condition for its age, with some wear. Please see photos for detail.
