In good condition. Light wear to extremities. Binding is nicely preserved with minimal edge wear and scuffing. Gilt finishing lightly rubbed but remains bright and clean. All edges gilt. Boards slightly curved. Missing front flyleaf. Old hand notations on front title page. Interior lightly toned with moderate foxing. A few notations throughout. Binding tight and intact. Sound. This poem is addressed, of course, to Poe’s mother-in-law and aunt, Maria Clemm. This same version of the poem was printed in Sartain’s Union Magazine, December 1849. 

Reynell Coates (1802-1886) was an American physician, scientist, teacher and poet. Be apprenticed under Benjamin Rush at age fifteen at Pennsylvania Hospital. He graduated from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1823 and became resident physician at the hospital. He edited this illustrated collection of short stories and verse.
