Macedonia, Greece Mercator, Hondius, Jansson, Atlas Minor 1634

Title: Macedonia Epirus et Achaia.

Description: Old map of northern Greece with Euboea, Epirus, Macedonia, Albania and Corfu.

Mapmaker: Gerardus Mercator (1512 – 1594) was a 16th-century geographer, cosmographer and cartographer from the County of Flanders.Mercator was a highly influential pioneer in the history of cartography. Along with Gemma Frisius and Abraham Ortelius, he is generally considered one of the founders of the Netherlandish school of cartography and geography.

After Mercator's death his family sold the copper plates to Jodocus Hondius in 1604.
Hondius transformed the atlas with 40 extra maps (including Spain and Portugal) and in 1606 a new edition appeared under his name.
Hondius was an accomplished business man and under his guidance the Atlas was an enormous success; he (followed by his son Henricus, and son-in-law Johannes Janssonius) produced 29 editions between 1609 and 1641, including one in English.

Origin: Atlas Minor by Mercator, Hondius, Jansson, 1634.
