Brown Thrasher & Cherokee Rose Atlanta, Georgia GA 30304 US FDCs Scott#1953-2002 Birds & Flowers of the 50 States First Day of Issue Date: 4/14/1982 On April 14, 1982, The United States Postal Service issued a 50 stamp souvenir sheet of the state birds and flowers of every state in the union. Each stamp depicted each state's official bird and flower. The state birds were painted by artist Arthur Singer and the state flowers were painted by his son Alan Singer. The standard First Day of Issue cancel was for Washington, DC as the nation's capitol. ( 4/14/82) Cancels were also made available from each of the 50 State Capital's with a stylized pictorial cancel from the capital city (also 4/14/82). These cancels were much less common.
