For sale is a rare and finely bound first cheap edition of Dombey and Son, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1858. With a frontispiece. Collated as complete. The text in double columns.

Bound in the original fine tan calf over marbled boards. The spine with intricate gilt tooling, and the title to a black morocco label. All page edges marbled, and the endpapers also.

Externally the condition is very good indeed; the calf is largely bright and the hinges very firm. The gilt bold.

Internally, aside from the odd spot, it is delightfully clean throughout.

Overall, this is a rare and most pleasing volume. Released by the publisher as an affordable reading copy, and the size is ideal for the pocket of the Victorian traveller. It comes very highly recommended, being the first edition of its type.
