Sebastian worked as a lecturer at the University of the Franciscan Order in Tübingen, where he studied astrology to the famous astronomer Johannes Stöffler. in addition to his main work, the Cosmographia, Sebastian Munster wrote some very extensive work in the field of Hebrew studies, natural science, geography, and theology.

The map is an antique woodblock print from Sebastian Munsters Cosmographia, (German 1546 edition) published by Heinrich Petri in Basel.
