Details About the RELIC:

This is an actual relic from a WW2 Corsair built by Goodyear - Aircraft No. 92095. This fragment of aluminum wing skin was taken from the American Star under the starborad wing. It was removed in 2022 during the aircraft's restoration back to flying status.

High above the Essex-class aircraft carrier - USS Boxer, Goodyear FG-1D Corsair No. 92095 conducts training exercises in anticipation of "Operation Downfall" - the proposed Allied invasion of Japan that never materialized. Dubbed "Whistling Death" by its enemies, the FG-1D was the dedicated Fighter-Bomber configuration of the highly successful F4U Corsair and became the US Navy and Marine Corp's carrier-based close air support aircraft during the Korean War.
