The engraving shows: the genealogy of the Valois House and its major alliances, with 4 inset views of their Palaces in Paris: Place et Palais Royal, Palais des Tuilleries, Palais de Luxembourg.
The royal house of the Valois died in 1589 on the death of King Henry III. Her last two representatives are Marguerite de Valois, Queen of Navarre, who died in 1615 and Diane de France, Duchess of Angoulême, who died in 1619.

Origin Chatelain, Henri Abraham (1684-1743). Atlas Historique. Amsterdam: Châtelain, 1713-1708-1714-1719-1720 with a second edition appearing in 1732.
Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684-1743), his father Zacharie Chatelain (d.1723) and Zacharie Junior (1690-1754), worked as a partnership publishing the Atlas Historique,
The maps in the Atlas Historique were mainly based on those of the French cartographer, Guillaume De L'Isle, but were presented by the Chatelains in an encyclopedic form.
