Factory references show #31596-86 for XL 883 models from 1986-90. Interestingly, however, Factory references show #31596-81 for the 1991-92 vintage, which suggests use of the early ironhead brush set for 2 years. Then, for 1993 models and later, Factory references go back to #31596-86. So you'll wish to consult your own Factory references to confirm, particularly if you have a 1991-92 model.
