Optical direction finder PGK-2 is designed to find the compass bearing relative to a coastal object or a celestial body.
The direction finder is installed on the repeater of "Kurs" type gyrocompasses, "GKU" type gyro course indicators, etc.

Optical direction finder PGK-2 consists of a telescopic system and a microscope, respectively, designed to observe a bearing object and read off the compass bearing on the card scale. The optical system is located in a housing: mounted on a frame with two legs for holding the direction finder on the repeater. In the middle part of the frame there is a pin that fits into the hole in the disc on the glass of the repeater cover and centers the direction finder. To install the PKG-2 direction finder on the repeater, the holder foot is released by lifting the lock lever up and moving it to the side, then it is set to the working position and secured with a lock when it is lowered.

Observation is carried out through the eyepiece, the rotation of which focuses the telescopic system. Focusing of the microscope is carried out by a vernier located on the right side of the PGK-2 direction finder body.
