Harold Wood (British 1918-2014).

Born in Preston, Lancashire in 1918. Wood trained as a decorative artist with the Leyland Paint Company whilst studying drawing and painting at the Harris School of Art. He worked as an illustrator and model maker in London and studied etching at the Central School of Art & Crafts.

Wood began painting full time in the early 1950's, and had a number of one man shows including: the Zwemmer Gallery 1954, Beaux Arts Gallery 1956, Grosvenor Gallery 1964, Bramante Gallery, Victoria 1970, Kamp Gallery, Chicago, USA 1998, and Vanguard Gallery, Cork 2003. Since undertaking important commissions for clients in Saudi Arabia and Oman, Harold Wood has been referred to as 'The Painter of the Arab World'. He moved to Ireland in 1980 to Arlinstown, County Cork until his death in 2014.

His work is held in various private, corporate and public collections in the UK and abroad including the Harris Museum and Art Gallery and Rye Art Gallery.
