RIVER SCENE WITH CATTLE WATERING

WATERCOLOURS

John Henry Campbell was an oil and watercolour painter born in 1757 and having completed his education in the Dublin Society’s School, John established himself as a landscape painter in Dublin. Following a number of exhibitions, he contributed works to the Royal Hibernian Academy at its opening in 1826 and then again in 1828. His watercolours include, a ‘view of Dublin, Howth’ in the Kildare Street National Museum, a ‘View near Rostrevor’ in the National Gallery of Ireland and a ‘Bridge over the Dodder, Upper Rathmines’. Campbell’s art is uniquely painted and can be ranked highly among the other watercolour painters in Ireland of the period.
