Why cork?

Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree. It is therefore a naturally environmentally-friendly material as the trees from which it is sourced do not need to be cut down. It is a natural insulator which has excellent thermal and sound insulation properties. It is anti-static, which helps avoid the formation of dust. It also has anti-allergy properties. As it is rot-proof, it is a long-lasting material. Cork is also ideal for scratching posts. Cats love it and it presents no risk of injury to our four-legged friends.

Cork can be cleaned with a sponge or damp cloth. In the event of more stubborn stains, soapy water may be used, but care must be taken not to wet the cork too much. Then wipe down the surface with a clean, dry cloth. For the Cocoon, let the cork dry completely before replacing the cushion.

About the designer

During summer 2018, Françoise and her two sons — Franck and Eric — decided to go into partnership and founded INSTINCTIVE TENDANCE to develop their own range of furniture. Unfortunately, post-covid economical changed forced this lovely family business to close in 2022. There are only two last Kanop cat tress available in the UK.

INSTINCTIVE TENDANCE’s products are designed with the environment in mind. This comes at a cost as they are not mass-produced. The products are entirely made in France by craftsmen or small companies, which helped contribute to protecting local employment.
The raw materials were selected with care: recycled cork, fully biodegradable plant-based baize, wood from sustainably managed forests.
