ABOUT THE DESIGN / This design commemorates the 1846 - 1847 pioneer trek when members of the Church of Jesus Christ, led by their prophet Brigham Young, left Illiinois, crossed Iowa, Nebraska, and Wyoming, and entered the territory that is now called Utah. Later 30,000 additional religious exiles arrived in the Salt Lake Valley, arriving in covered wagons, on foot, and often pulling handcarts.
