This listing is for 25 English Ivy plants that are ready for planting. They come bare root, with minimal soil and water absorbing crystals.


They will be guaranteed vibrant and healthy and ready for transplanting. We do not ship with the pot as the pot allows for too much soil moisture evaporation. It will be securely adhered to the package wall for the safest shipping method possible.

This plant is native to most of Europe and eastern Asia. English Ivy is now widely cultivated. Because of its attained popularity as an ornamental plant, escaped plants have naturalized outside of its natural range. 


General Description: A rampant, clinging, evergreen vine. Groundcovers have always fascinated our nursery. The sea of green that they can ensue after planting is a sweet bliss. We are proud to offer this groundcover.

Maintenance: Low, but it is classified as invasive in some locations. 


Mature Height: 20 to 80 feet 
Mature Width: 3 to 50 feet 


Plant Details: 


Growth Habit: Fast growing vine. Will develop as a ground cover, or climb up fences, buildings, trellises, or down banks and slopes. 


Leaf Structure: Alternate, dark green with white markings, waxy-looking, and measuring 2 to 4 inches long and wide. Juvenile leaves are typically palmately five-lobed and found on the creeping and climbing stems. Mature leaves are unlobed cordate, or heart-shaped, which are found on the fertile flowering stems. 
Stem Structure: Young stems start green and very pliable. 
Bark Structure: Stems mature to brown/copper woody stems that have an exfoliating texture. 


Bloom Time: Late summer until late autumn. 
Bloom Color: Green-ish yellow to white. They form in umbels, or clusters that look reminiscent of umbrella ribs, which are 1 to 2 inches in diameter. 


Soil Preference: Sand, clay, loam, silt. They prefer rich soil that is acidic.  
Watering Preference: Medium. 
Sunlight Preference: Partial to full shade. The leaves will burn in full sun. 


Fruit Production: Yes, purple-black berries, which contain 1 to 5 seeds each. They ripen in late winter. They are poisonous to humans, cats, dogs and livestock; however, they are a wonderful food source for birds. 
Nut Production: N/A 


Main use of plant: 
Indoor: Makes a wonderful addition to any room. They do well in hanging planters/baskets. 

Outdoor: Groundcover, used for topiaries and hanging baskets, or large planters. Will grow up fences, trellises, trees, walls, buildings, etc.  


Fun Fact: The flowers are visited by over 70 species of insects who feed on nectar and at least 16 species of birds feed on the berries. 


General Notes: 

Hedera is the classical Latin word for 'ivy'. 

Great wildlife plant - birds, bees and other insects, mammals. 

The foliage provides dense evergreen shelter for birds and small mammals, like chipmunks and squirrels, and is browsed by deer. 


We grow everything organically with a beneficial insect program. We do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. We use a preventive program for pests with the use of Ladybugs, Green Lacewings, Praying Mantis, and Predatory Mites to battle soft bodied bugs and Nematodes in the soil to combat any soil dwelling pests. Soil pH level guide: Acid to Neutral to Alkaline.  Acidic soil has a pH of 1 to 6.5. Neutral soil has a pH of 6.6 to 7.3. Alkaline soil has a pH of 7.4 to 14. If you do not know your garden's pH level, please go out and buy a cheap soil pH testing kit which can be found in any hardware store, typically under $5.00.
