Antique French Art Nouveau Silver Plated, Christofle Gallia Bread Tray, Poppies

This beautiful antique Art Nouveau period French silver plated bread tray is designed with a lovely motif of poppies and ears of wheat and has cutwork handles. The tray is numbered 4355 and bears two maker’s marks. The first mark consists of the image of a ram’s head, the maker’s mark of the Alfenide company. At the end of the 1880’s, the Alfenide Company was bought out by the Maison Christofle. The second maker’s mark consists of the name “Orfèvrerie Gallia” above the image of a shield with a rooster. The name “Gallia” was registered by Christofle to launch its “Art Nouveau” silver plate collection. The famous grand hotel Le Ritz, in Paris, as well as the mythic train, the Orient Express, were equipped with luxurious table settings of Gallia silverware. This piece is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches, a small fabrication flaw on one handle and a few small signs of wear on the bottom due to age and normal use. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. This handsome tray will be an excellent addition to you collection or a charming “French” touch to your décor.
