Historical reference

Su-26, SU-26 is a single-seat aerobatic aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau.

The world's first sports aircraft, originally designed for an operational overload of 12 g; destructive overload is 23 g. For the first time among aircraft of this type, it is equipped with a seat with a large backrest inclination (35 °), which makes it easier to endure high G-forces. Also, for the first time, when creating a sports aircraft, the designers relied on the use of mainly composite materials: their share in the weight of the structure exceeds 50%.

Su-26 is the first sports aircraft of the Sukhoi Design Bureau. Its development began in 1983, the prototype made its first flight on June 30, 1984, the car was piloted by Evgeny Frolov.

A total of 5 vehicles were produced, the rest of the produced Su-26s were with modifications and had various additional marks in the title.

Su-26M quickly won the title of one of the best aerobatic aircraft in the world for participation in competitions and demonstrations. It occupies a leading place in the number of prizes won on it at various aerobatics competitions: by 1993, more than 150 medals were won on the Su-26M, of which more than 90 were gold. Speaking on the Su-26M, Lyubov Nemkova became the absolute world champion, and Nikolai Nikityuk became the absolute European champion. Since 1996, more than 120 aircraft of this type have been delivered to the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Australia and other countries.

The Su-26M3 is one of the few sports aircraft equipped with a pilot ejection system. Su-26 aircraft of earlier modifications also did not include it. In the event of an emergency, the pilot has the opportunity to leave the aircraft using the SKS-94M ejection system.

The Su-26 was first presented at the World Aerobatics Championship in August 1984 in Hungary. Later, its modification Su-26M appeared, with which the USSR national team, which fully performed on the Su-26M, at the XIII World Championships in August 1986 in Great Britain, won the team championship and the Nesterov Cup, as well as 16 medals out of 33 played out.

The release of the Su-26M3, like all other modifications of the Su-26, is currently discontinued. There are no Su-26s in Russian flying clubs. The Russian aerobatics team has three Su-26M3 aircraft at its disposal.
