Maria Alexandrovna Nesterova(Berzina) was born in Samarkand, where she spent her childhood. In the 1920s she was engaged in painting and agitation-mass art. In her early creative period she worked under the influence of the ideas of constructivism, created such advertising posters as "Avtodor", "Urtak tobacco" and others. In the late 1920s-1930s, M.A. Nesterova-Berzina made advertising posters for the state joint-stock company Intourist. Created in 1929, the association immediately launched an active advertising campaign. First of all, in order to form a favorable perception of the Land of Soviets among foreign guests. Working for Intourist, Maria Nesterova performed posters: "Crimea" (1930), "Rest in the USSR" (1930), "Central Asia" (1934), "Hunting in the USSR" (1935), "Batum" (1936), "Baku" (1935–36), "Summer sports in the USSR" (1936), "Odessa" and others. Intourist works of Nesterova of this period clearly show the influence of the Art Deco style. Posters are distinguished by bold geometric shapes and color diversity, expressiveness and high artistic level. It was the advertising posters for Intourist that became the best in the work of the artist. In addition to advertising posters, she turned to the topic of sports, in 1940 she performed the poster “All on skis!”, In 1941 - the poster “State loans of the USSR contribute to the further rise of agriculture ...”.
