Historical reference

Yak-12A Production variant with new wing and modified empennage; about 1,500 vehicles were produced, mainly for civil aviation; in the Air Force it was used as a communications aircraft.

Yak-12 (according to NATO codification - Creek) is a light multi-purpose transport aircraft. The design bureau of A.S. Yakovlev was developed on the personal assignment of I.V. Stalin.

The need to replace the obsolete Po-2 and UT-2 light-engine aircraft arose even before the Great Patriotic War, but the war changed the plans of aircraft designers. Immediately after the war, A. S. Yakovlev Design Bureau began to design a multi-purpose light aircraft. The designers sought to create a cheap, easy to manufacture and unpretentious machine that could be used to transport passengers, mail and goods on short local lines; as sanitary; for air seeding, fertilizing plants with fertilizers, pollinating green spaces; in flying clubs for towing gliders and for training in parachuting.

In 1946, the aircraft was tested. Serial production began almost immediately. The main version of the Yak-12 had good flight data for its class of machines. The aircraft was equipped with a radio station and instruments that ensured the possibility of flying at night and in difficult weather conditions, the takeoff run was 120 m, the run was 150 m. The modified Yak-12M was produced in Poland under the designation PZL-101 Gawron.

In 1972, the operation of the Yak-12 in the civil aviation of the USSR was terminated due to the development of the established resource and service life.

Aircraft Yak-12 with engines M-11FR, and later Yak-12R, Yak-12M and Yak-12A were widely used in DOSAAF. On September 15, 1975, DOSAAF had 387 Yak-12M aircraft, including 120 under repair. Yak-12 aircraft operated in DOSAAF until 1989, and a number of aircraft remained in storage there for several more years.

A small number of these aircraft remain in service to this day (in private flying clubs).
