Description: Antique Old Town plan of Ghent (Gent -Gand) Belgium.
The map shows the military positions of the armies around the Town during the 5 days siege in December 1708.
Copperplate engraved map with hand coloring, and a title cartouche with explanation box at lower left.

Cartographer: Matthäus Merian.
His main work was in the years 1642 to 1654 Topographia Germaniae, comprising 16 volumes, which were expanded by his heirs to a total of 30 volumes. The lyrics are by Martin Zeiller.
Engraved by Johannes Ammann.
