Historical reference

La-174TK (thin wing) - an experienced jet fighter created by OKB-301 under the leadership of S.A. Lavochkin. Built in a single copy and made its first flight in September 1947.

In 1947-1948, in OKB-301 under the leadership of S.A. Lavochkin, the last fighter of the "red scheme" "174TK" was created. After the acquisition by the Soviet Union of new jet engines in England, their mass production was launched. The Rolls-Royce Nin engine was produced under the designation RD-45, and the Derwent V under the designation RD-500. The engines were designated by the numbers of the factories where they were produced, at factories No. 45 and No. 500, respectively. With the second engine, based on the design of the aircraft "154", a new fighter was created with a modernized straight, thin wing (which meant TK in the aircraft index), 6% of the profile thickness. In addition to the wing, the forward fuselage was revised to accommodate the thicker RD-500. The tail unit has been enlarged. The 174TK was armed with three 23 mm NR-23 cannons.

At the beginning of 1948, the fighter passed flight tests, the 174TK was piloted by test pilot I.E. Fedorov. The aircraft had a low specific wing load and a high thrust-to-weight ratio. At the same time, in terms of speed characteristics, it surpassed the Yak-23 of a similar design, in maximum speed by 50 km / h, and in the maximum number of M in horizontal flight, 0.86 versus 0.807 for the Yak-23. However, OKB-115 under the leadership of A.S. Yakovlev was significantly ahead of OKB-301 under the leadership of S.A. Lavochkin, and the Yak-23 was built in series, and the "174TK" remained in one copy.
