'John Young Leaps' [CMDR] Apollo 16 Canvas Artist Proof Limited Edition Print signed by Alan Bean Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] Apollo 12 with Certificate of Authenticity [CoA]

Alan Bean was an acclaimed Fine Art Space Artist, the Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] for Apollo 12 and the 4th Man to Walk upon the Moon!

In Alan Bean's 'Monet' style this art reflects Alan Bean's mastery of colours and detail.

Astronaut John W. Young, commander of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, leaps from the lunar surface as he salutes the United States flag at the Descartes landing site during the first Apollo 16 extravehicular activity. Astronaut Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot, took the original photograph. Stone Mountain dominates the background of this lunar scene.  On Earth John Young, his spacesuit and backpack weighed a combined 310lbs [140kgs], which would have rendered this feat impossible here.

This canvas is in Alan Bean's 'photo realistic' style.  The colours of the sunlit Moonscape and reflections in John Young's gold spacesuit visor are visually stunning.

Alan Bean's distinguishing art!  The tools Alan Bean used to explore the Moon were also used by him to put the Moon's stamp on each painting he created. Exact replicas of his Moon boots were used to make footprints across the painting's surface, reminiscent of the Apollo boot prints remaining on the Moon today. Streaks etched on the painting's surface are from the same geology hammer he used on the Apollo 12 mission. Finally, a sharp edged bit from one of the core tubes is used to make the circular indentations in the surface. These are beautifully captured in each edition.

Description (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

'John Young Leaps' Apollo 16 Canvas Artist Proof Limited Edition Print signed by Alan Bean Lunar Module Pilot [LMP] is exciting Moon Art and a defining classic by Alan Bean.

Alan Bean was the only human being in history to become a fine art Master Artist to paint various Apollo mission experiences based on his own personal real experience of having been to, and walked on the Moon!   Here are a few words about this fine art by Alan Bean:

“You feel this way when you're finally on the Moon!” says artist and Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean. “It’s the culmination of all you’ve studied and worked for since you were a little kid."

“John has jumped straight up about 3 feet or so. On Earth, this would have been impossible because John weighs 160 pounds and the suit and the backpack weigh 150 pounds, but on the Moon everything (including John) weighed only one-sixth as much. Someday there will be athletic contests on the Moon, maybe even Solar System Olympics and many astonishing records will be set.”

This 'John Young Leaps' signed by Alan Bean captures all the vivid color and brilliance of the original Alan Bean’s work of art.

The 'hallmark' of a Master Space Artist is in their ability to show different types of moments in the harsh environment of space and its different elements.  This art is stunning for the way Alan Bean captures the action and unexpected moment of John Young deciding to 'jump' vertically 3 feet and salute the American Flag at the same time.  A 'moment' that entered the annals of 'visual history' instantaneously.

The Red Stripes on John Young's Space Suit, first appeared on Apollo 14 after Mission Control realised during Apollo 11 and 12, that they could not identify the Apollo Commander on the Lunar surface easily during dual Moonwalks.

Mission Profile (source Wikipedia)

John Watts Young (September 24, 1930 - January 5, 2018) was an American astronaut, naval officer and aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer. He became the ninth person to walk on the Moon as Commander of the Apollo 16 mission in 1972. Young enjoyed the longest career of any astronaut, becoming the first person to fly six space missions (with seven launches, counting his lunar liftoff) over the course of 42 years of active NASA service.

Young was the only spaceman to span NASA’s Gemini, Apollo and shuttle programs, and became the first person to rocket away from Earth six times. Counting his takeoff from the moon in 1972 as commander of Apollo 16, his blastoff tally stood at seven, for decades a world record.  He is the only person to have piloted, and been commander of, four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini, the Apollo Command/Service Module, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the Space Shuttle.

In 1965, Young flew on the first manned Gemini mission, and commanded another Gemini mission the next year. In 1969 during Apollo 10, he became the first person to fly solo around the Moon. He drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle on the Moon's surface during Apollo 16, and is one of only three people to have flown to the Moon twice. He also commanded two Space Shuttle flights, including its first launch in 1981, and served as Chief of the Astronaut Office from 1974 to 1987. Young retired from NASA in 2004. He died on January 5, 2018.

Apollo 16, April 16-27, 1972, was Young’s fourth space flight but his first lunar exploration. Young was Spacecraft Commander accompanied by Astronauts Ken Mattingly and Charlie Duke. Young and Duke set up scientific equipment and explored the lunar highlands at Descartes in the Lunar Rover.

His NASA career lasted 42 years, longer than any other astronauts, and he was revered among his peers for his dogged dedication to keeping crews safe - and his outspokenness in challenging the space agency’s status quo.

Apollo 16 was the tenth manned mission in the United States Apollo space program the fifth and penultimate to land on the moon and the first to land in the lunar highlands. The second of the so-called "J missions," it was crewed by Commander John Young, Lunar Module Pilot Charles Duke and Command Module Pilot Ken Mattingly.

Young and Duke spent 71 hours—just under three days—on the lunar surface, during which they conducted three extra-vehicular activities or moonwalks, totalling 20 hours and 14 minutes. The pair drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV), the second produced and used on the Moon, 26.7 kilometres (16.6 mi). On the surface, Young and Duke collected 95.8 kilograms (211 lb) of lunar samples for return to Earth.

About Alan Bean

This fine art offering is from a terrific Fine Art Artist and Astronaut who walked upon the Moon and is truly a 'Lifetime' opportunity.

Obtaining Alan's work such as this in future years is nigh impossible, especially for a 'Historic Subject' such as this.  'That's how it Felt to Walk Upon The Moon' which sold out commercially in 1988 soon after its release, is one such example.

Alan Bean Original Paintings now typically sell for US250,000 to US$500,000, but were sometimes US30,000 in the 1980s.  Alan Bean Master Art Work Limited Editions typically increase in value over time as well.

Astronaut and artist Alan Bean was not only the first artist to paint a world other than our Earth who actually went there, he was the first in history to paint our Earth after viewing it from space. His art's significance as the original human interpretative record of man's first off-world experience will only increase in its importance and value over time.

Alan Bean, Astronaut and Alexey Leonov, Cosmonaut were the only Space Travellers to become Fine Art Artists. Enjoy the beauty of Alan Bean's Moon Art upon your wall from the only Astronaut who walked upon the Moon and then became a fine art Space Artist.

Collectors Hints (Space and Aviation Firsts © 2017-2023).

Collectors Hint 1 - What is a Canvas 'Artist Proof' Limited Edition Print?

'Artist Proofs' are a special early subset of the regular limited edition, limited to the first 10% of the print run.  An ‘Artist Proof’ is just that, an ‘Artist Proof’ and may or may not be numbered at the discretion of the Artist.  They therefore usually sell for 20-50% more than the regular edition print.

The 'Artist Proofs' are the first prints pulled off a fresh "stone", the plate which was drawn or etched by the artist to create the Limited Editions.

A really serious or specific Collector usually prefers the 'Artist Proof' if one is available, because of the extra quality and value they represent.

Collectors Hint 2 – What is a 'Fine Artwork’ Canvas Limited Edition Print?

A 'Fine Artwork' Canvas is intended to reproduce the presentation of the original oil or acrylic painting on a stretched canvas.

This is absolutely the option of choice if you have the desire and preference to mirror the original painting with the 3D texture and look of a beautiful Canvas.

They are stunningly beautiful in their presentation for that ‘Stand Out Impressiveness’ upon your wall.
