Rare Victorian Scottish basket hilt broad sword desk display letter opener based on the original 1828 pattern Scottish sword with a double edged blade.
Full Birmingham hallmark with the date letter for 1937 and the marker mark for Alexander Jones of Albion Street.
The detail in the construction and the quality of this piece is exceptional and rare to find in this large size, most are much smaller.
The basket hilt is beautifully made with hand cut pierced decoration, the grip is decorated with wire work, the blade is wide and double edged with a treble fuller. 
The overall length is 8 1/2 inches 21.5 cm long, the blade is 6 7/8 inches 17.5 cm long.
The combined silver weight is 85 grams
