- A beautiful little hand moulded antique glass penny medicine bottle.
- This one is very tall and thin, and probably held cod liver oil or similar simple remedy medicine.
- To cater for a new growing consumer demand small bottles, or penny bottles as they were known, had to be made in huge numbers, very cheaply.
- They were hand blown into a two-part metal mould, and simply burst off the blow pipe to finish, the sharp top, known as a “burst lip,” would simply have been corked and sealed with wax.
- This example is approximately 4 1/4 inches tall (11cm) and 3/4 inch wide (2cm).
