It weighs about 11g. I have two weighing scales and it weighed 10.7g on one and 11g on the other. Absolutely marvellous watch with a fantastic mechanism never missing a beat. Watches this quality are seldom being made these day. They never require a battery and will give you many years of headache free service.

A watch with 17 jewels is often called a fully jeweled watch. This means that it uses jewel bearings. Real jewels were used back in the day. Due to their price, they aren't used anymore. The jewels used these days are their synthetic counterparts. Whether you own a cheap automatic watch or an expensive one, you'll see a synthetic ruby, sapphire, and emerald in place.

The Pierpont brand was founded over one hundred years ago in January 1909, by Georges Friedrich Sauter and Paul Albert Sauter, following the demise of a previous partnership Bourquin, Sauter & Cie, formed in 1901. It was the main brand of Sauter Frères of Bienne, Switzerland.

Pierpont were a great watchmaking company that didn't survive the Quartz revolution. They produced fine range of watches all of which are now rare and collectible. Pierpont watches generally have an excellent Felsa 4000/4007 movement inside them.

The trademark "Pierpont" was registered for watches and movements in 1918 and expired in 1978.

Initially Sauter specialised in watches for women, but branched out into gents' watches in the 1920s. In 1944 Pierpoint Watch Co, Sauter Frères et Cie was advertising for agents in the UK, offering "smart and reliable watches of excellent workmanship"

In the late 1950s and 1960s their UK importer was A. Brun of London. In 1951 Onsa Watches of Nidau in Bern began distributing Pierpont watches in Switzerland. In 1985 the company became Pierpont SA Bienne and was sadly finally liquidated in 2006.
