Burgundian Wars (1474-1477) - a series of military conflicts between the Duchy of Burgundy, on the one hand, and the Swiss Union, on the other. The hostilities, which began in 1474, developed unsuccessfully for the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, and ended in 1477 with his death in the battle of Nancy. As a result, the Burgundian state was divided between the king of France and the Habsburg dynasty, and Switzerland strengthened its independence and became one of the militarily strongest states in Western Europe.
The Dukes of Burgundy succeeded for about 100 years in establishing their rule as a powerful force between the Holy Roman Empire and France. The unification of regional principalities with different wealth into the Burgundian state brought great economic opportunities and wealth to the new government. In fact, the decisive factor for many elites in consolidating their lands was the relatively reliable guarantee of profits in an economically stable Duchy of Burgundy.[1] Their possessions included, in addition to their original territories of Franche-Comté and the Duchy of Burgundy, the economically strong regions of Flanders and Brabant, as well as Luxembourg.
