Le Coultre Atmos "Classic" table clock in a gold-plated case
Up for auction is a beautiful table clock from Jaeger Le Coultre, model Atmos "Classic" in a gold-plated case. The watch is equipped with a case that is glazed on all sides, ground, polished and gold-plated, a door flap that opens downwards on the front, applied number wedges, Arabic numerals, wedge-shaped pointers, and a very finely crafted movement. Below the dial is the slowly turning torsion dial. The special thing about this watch: A small temperature difference of just 2°C is enough to create a power reserve of 2 days. The technical principle: A capsule contains a gas mixture (ethylene chloride), which expands as the temperature rises and contracts as the temperature falls (membrane). This movement is used to wind the mainspring of the atmospheric clock. The power reserve of the watch is practically unlimited (no winding). Apart from an occasional readjustment of the time, the clock does not require any operation. In the base there is a small dragonfly (spirit level) for perfect adjustment when setting up. The watch is also equipped with a safety lever for locking the torsion pendulum. It can therefore be transported without any problems. |
